I'm Blind Willie. Some of ya'll may thought you heard me in Georgia by name of Blind Sammie or Georgia Bill. Maybe, ... maybe not. Please tip the musicians coming up, playin' tonight, real good. I have some low down blues I want to play for you. Also, we have BenJamin here from Jaco Beach, somewhere down south. Then we have Hogeye Bill, from he-ain't-sayin' to sing a couple of his, what we used to call, reefer songs. Some other folks likely be droppin' by, too.
I'll kick it on one of my songs now. It's about the usual troubles - I love a woman but her good man don't want me around, lordy, at all. You know what I mean.
Yeah, and it'll happen to me again, too... Thanks for your applause. I'm just a street musician, worked my way across Georgia, into Tennesee and Arkansas, where I met and later traveled with Willie Johnson. Fine slide guitar player. Voice like a preacher. Low, resonating, ... spiritual. He stole some of my songs, but I'm used to it. He wasn't the first, and won't be the last. It's okay, it's something all us bluesmen do. I stole some of my best songs, so I can't complain. Here's one some white boys from Atlanta stole from me. It's called:
The feller coming up is well known to you rockers out there. He's doing a solo act at Jaco Beach right now, but was able to tear himself away from the kind mamas somehow, and get down here to our VAZ1 strut. Please welcome BenJamin.
Artist up: Ben Jamin
Howdy y'all, what's up? I'm been jammin' in Costa Rica for about 9 months and pickin' the blues in and around the Jaco area. The way I see it... the blues ain't when you loose your old lady or your job or whatever, it's when you Didn't Woke UP in da Mownin'!
When I was young I was sometimes a punk. But not a lazy punk. This is another song I made. I wrote it when I was young. This'n ain't really a blues tune, but I hope you dig it. I feel Blind Willy talkin' to me.
Mal Pais Surf Camp was one of the first places in Costa Rica that I had the opportunity to get a gig. During my week or so visit I wrote a song with the help of Doug and various other Tequila induced brethrens and sisters, as well as the legendary Hogeye Bill. It goes a little something like dis right here...
(imitation Elvis)Thank you very much.
Artist up: Kate McTell (with Blind Willie on guitar)
My good woman here, Kate, is itchin' to do a temperence song. Lucky she can't see what
you folks is doing at your computers ... lordy! ... Kate's right, though. The Good Lord says
overindulgence is a sin. So watch out, y'all, because
Now we have that hillbilly guitar strummer and singer out of Arkansas. He has some controverial
songs, some off-color songs, and some plain foot-stompin' music. Give a hand to Hogeye Bill.
Artist up: Hogeye Bill
Now that I'm a PT (perpetual tourist, permanent traveler, pot toker and poet troubador),
it gives me different perspective on things. I can afford to ignore nation-states and empires.
If I choose to pay attention to that stuff, it is as a distant observer rather than a participant
or victim. That suits me just fine. Here's a song about it.
One thing that really sucks about the USEmpire is the war on drug users. If you're gonna
live in an occupied area, where pigs can confiscate your stuff and imprison you, you may want to think
about the possibility of self-defense. And even justice. Here's a song I wrote about those
kidnappers under color of law, the narcs. It's called ...
I'd like to do another uplifting song - a spiritual this time. Sacred music. I exaggerate
a little bit in this song. Legalization of cannabis wouldn't really put alcohol out of business.
It would get a significant market share. I can't wait 'till I can sidle up to the bar and order
a joint of Kush cross Skunk. Here's a song about keeping up "the faith" until that glorious day
arrives.
I'm Hogeye Bill. I'm going to turn it back over to our host Blind Willie now.
Artist up: Blind Willie
I'm gonna wind it up here with a low-down blues about getting broke and having no woman.
But first, I want to thank y'all for coming to our little strut, rent-party here. I hope you
tipped the musicians. Here in VAZ1 we can do some things that can't be done 'tall in real life.
A musician can snap his fingers and have a whole backup band, all tuned up and ready to kick it.
It's said that they can even raise the dead. Well, if I'm dead then dig my grave with the Ace of spades, and leave my tips to my nym.
Sometimes things get to you, and you feel broke down ... like an old-time train engine that been torn down for parts.
Thank y'all. My name's Blind Willie. We're going to have one of these virtual struts every month.
I hope you can make it to the next one. Poor ol' VAZ1 musicians need rent-parties, too.
I'll be here, kicking it off again. Bye now.
